Former Marion County Prosecutor Scott Newman Endorses Philip Foust

INDIANAPOLIS — Former Marion County Prosecutor Scott Newman has endorsed Philip Foust for Marion County Prosecutor, citing Foust’s commitment to protecting victims, holding repeat offenders accountable, and restoring public safety across Indianapolis.

Newman served as Marion County Prosecutor from 1995 to 2002, taking the helm when Indianapolis was at a crossroads amid rising crime, open-air drug markets, and alarming homicide rates. Through a commitment to victims, and partnerships with law enforcement and community leaders, Newman restored public safety and strengthened neighborhoods in Indianapolis. Today, Newman believes Marion County faces a similar crossroads and that Philip Foust is the leader to restore public safety.

“The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office I led had a clear mission: protect victims and hold criminals accountable. Under Ryan Mears, that mission has been abandoned. Philip Foust has the experience and backbone to refocus the office on public safety, enforce the law, and seek justice for victims. It’s why he has my complete endorsement,” said Newman.

“Scott Newman understands what it takes to run this office, and his endorsement is significant,” said Foust. “Our city deserves a prosecutor who puts victims first, holds offenders accountable, and restores confidence in our justice system. That’s exactly what I will do on day one.”

Newman’s endorsement adds to Foust’s growing support among public safety leaders, including the Indianapolis Fraternal Order of Police, the Indiana State Police Alliance, and the Retired Police Officers Association.
